HDI - Antivirus Information

It has come to our attention that the installer for the Help Desk Tools (HDI) was causing a false Trojan detection with many Antivirus systems.  Many Antivirus systems have been detecting a DLL which we use during the install/upgrade/uninstall cycles of the software.  We can assure you that this is a false detection and our installer is not attempting to install any hacking tools identified by the false detection.

The detection is being identified as follows:

Trojan.HackTool.ProcKill.A

Or similar.  The detection appears to be correct, but our software is NOT installing any hacker software.  The confusion has arisen because a real hacker tool has used the same DLL we have.  To this end, we have removed the use and inclusion of this DLL from the installation process of HDI.

The DLL contained a selection of short interface library routines that allowed the installer to detect a running copy of the program (HDI) and deal with it gracefully.  The idea being, that if you were attempting to perform an upgrade/uninstall of HDI, and it was still running.  Then the installer would kill of the version that was running on the system you were trying to install on, and then either uninstall HDI or upgrade HDI and restart it all automatically.  This saved you the inconvenience of re-booting your system to allow any changes to take effect.

However, now you must reboot your system after an upgrade or uninstall of HDI.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.  But please be assured that we are trying to find a suitable solution as soon as possible.

You may need to uninstall HDI before installing the latest version.  This is to ensure that the uninstaller that is currently on your system is removed to prevent any possible false detection.  To prevent any false detection and possible corruption of the uninstall cycle, please deactivate any Antivirus system you have active at the time.  Ensuring you re-enable your Antivirus system as soon as the uninstall process has completed.

You may then install the latest version (Build:0147 or later) and be assured that the false detection has now been resolved.
